REFERRAL GUIDELINES
CLOTHING - In order to become a client of Neighbor to Neighbor’s clothing services, you must be a resident of Greenwich, Stamford or Port Chester. You can be referred by a social service agency, school or religious organization such as a church or synagogue. Your referring agent must fill out a client referral form. Once you have obtained a completed referral form, please call or have your referring agent call (203) 622-9208 Monday through Saturday; 8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. to obtain an appointment.
EMERGENCY FOOD - Same guidelines as above, except there is no need to make an appointment. The referring agent must fill out the appropriate information on the second page of the referral form. Please bring the referral form directly to the clothing reception area.
SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD - In order to become a supplemental food client, you must be a resident of Greenwich and be referred from the following agencies:
- Department of Social Services
- Family Center’s Head Start Program
A referring agent will need to fill out both sides of Neighbor’s referral form. To download a print-friendly referral form, click here.
Please bring the completed form to the clothing reception area.
PROCEDURES
CLOTHING - You must have an appointment to visit the Neighbor to Neighbor Clothing Room. Upon your arrival, please check-in at the reception desk prior to entering the clothing area. At this time, you will receive a name tag and plastic bags for the clothing you will choose -- one plastic bag for each member of your immediate family. Please do not put clothing in any other bags, purses, or backpacks. Friends and relatives are not permitted in the clothing area at any time.
After check-in, you will be allowed 30 minutes to shop. Once your time limit has been reached, please exit quickly in order to allow other clients to visit the clothing area. Our volunteers are here to assist you -- please feel free to ask for their assistance in helping you find what you need.
As with any organziation that depends on donations, our clothing availability is limited at times. In order to provide as many clients with necessary clothing, we must limit our coats to one per person in your immediate family. Other necessary limitations are: 3 shirts, 3 sweaters, 3 pants (per person, as supplies permit).
If you have any special requests in terms of sheets, towels and blankets, please advise a volunteer in the clothing room. Note that special requests are limited to one per visit.
When your 30-minute time limit has been reached, please proceed to the reception area to schedule your next appointment. You will be able to visit six times each calendar year, approximately every 2 months. Appointment times are scheduled every 30 minutes between the hours of 9:00am and 11:30am. If you cannot make a scheduled appointment, please call (203) 622-9208 to reschedule.
FOOD - You will need to check-in at the clothing reception area, where you will receive a print-out and be directed to the food pantry. A volunteer will give you a nutritionally-based shopping list and then you are free to shop.
After you have completed your shopping, please see a volunteer at the check-out desk. Volunteers will bag your groceries and make certain you have selected the proper quantities in the categories suggested on the shopping lists.
